Russell Genesis McGee aka "Genesis the Greykid" is a writer/artist who actually started out as a ghost writer. He's from Virginia Beach, Va., but currently splits his time between Va Beach and Tennessee w/ the occasional trip to NYC when needed. Musically, he’s on another plateau and you can hear that in his writing and in his music. It’s like he paints pictures when he rhymes. His influences range from Jay-z to Art Tatum to ColdPlay to Radio Head….In fact Genesis rarely listens to rap, even though he raps in his music. When asked about what message he hopes to convey to the audience w/ his music, he replied “I’m simply a painter, trying to show you real pictures in a world full of illusions & sleight of a hand.” Genesis knows that he’s in the position he’s in for a reason and that reason is to tell the world his story & the story of a million others. He’s not writing just to write, he’s writing in hopes of aspiring others to follow their dreams and don’t let any circumstance discourage them. I personally look at Genesis as the Marvin Gaye of Rap and thats a very important role because like Jay-z once said “I do this for my culture” and, I think the very same could be said for Genesis. “A pioneer always seems crazy until he reaches dry land” and with all the positive feedback from people on Twitter, Facebook and Youtube as well as from record executive Joe “3H” Weinberger, directing duo Coodie & Chike, music mogul Dame Dash & G.O.O.D Music Recording Artist Tony Williams….It’s safe to say that Genesis is walking down the right path. “We already on, ya’ll just don’t know yet” (c) Genesis the Greykid
