Part of the new-millennium resurgence of alternative rap, Genius & Money's inspirations were atypical for Mid-West hip-hop.Spanning from the Native Tongues outfits like The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest, to the hard hitting street wise southern styles of Scarface and UGK. MC/Producer C-Genius (born Carl Edwards) and his cousin, K-Money Stacks (born Nathan Pearson) Grew up together in the same housing complex in Newton, KS.Surrounded by Low income-life and the aftermath of bad decisions made as a result, music had always served as an escape. Hip Hop was on the scene and it ignited a passion within both of find their voice and pursue a dream. When they reached adulthood Genius decided to leave and join the military, Money stayed in the streets. Both of them pursued their goal in separate directions. While in Germany, C-Genius released his first solo LP "Will Rhyme for Food" in 2007. Money released "Street Trained Professionals" with Loud Mouth Records in early '08. When Genius returned home he hooked back up with his cousin money and they went straight to work combining what they'd both learned into a joint venture. After months of hard work they released "Genius & Money" August 2009. Their styles seam polarized at times. C-Genius is the smooth, methodical, melody driven MC, while money brings a raw uncut street mentality to the table. Blending these two flavors of Hip Hop together definitely brings a notable sound and a diversity rarely seen in today's industry.
