Greg Ryan is a pianist, harpist and music producer born in Newport, South Wales. As a composer, Greg is a self described “reluctant newageist”. Self taught on the piano, harp and guitar, Greg writes music that reflects the new age aesthetics of peace and beauty while still trying to keep his spiritualist feet figuratively (and literally) on the ground. Greg released his first solo piano album, “Scribblings” at the age of 20. Scribblings was a collection of compositions written by Greg between the ages of 13 and 20 and has gone on to sell in over 20 different countries with countless placements in film and television. As a singer and producer, Greg is one half of acoustic duo "Nothing North Of Alaska". As a part of Nothing North Of Alaska, Greg won "Best Acoustic Act" at the 2012 Download Music Awards and went on to spend two weeks at number 1 on the International Independent Charts with his first single. Greg has had multiple plays on BBC Radio as well as being featured as BBC Introducing’s “Artist Of The Week” in 2013.
Greg’s recently launched youtube channel has acquired over 300,000 views in a month and features quirky covers of popular songs as well as originals.
Greg writes for all sorts of films ranging from full length features to little animated shorts.
When composing and recording, Greg plays piano, harp, guitar, saxophone, ukulele, mandolin and violin.
Unsatisfied with the range of conventional instruments on offer, Greg has also been known to make his own. Creations include a guitello (guitar/cello hybrid) and a ukulin (ukulele/violin hybrid).
Even though Greg specialises in classical and cinematic music, he is partial to a bit of everything. Influences range from Ludovico Einaudi to Train to Eskmo and Noah and The Whale!
