King Hopeton aspires to create a legacy and body of work which will be synonymous with the works of reggae icons including the late Bob Marley, Steel Pulse, Black Uhuru and international recording artiste Sean Paul. The wealth of knowledge that he has grasped from the industry, was honed while playing instruments at weddings, and numerous functions.
A versatile reggae singer and musician whose work embodies elements of Jazz, rhythm and blues, mento, alternative and classical music, King Hopeton (real name Horace Campbell), was influenced by music from an early age. During his childhood, he would play the drums and organs while exercising his vocal muscles quite appropriately with detail and commitment.
His work has caught the attention of a number of well known names in reggae music, where he has played for the likes of Mykal Rose, Duckie Simpson, Justin Hinds, Rapture and United Force bands, just to name a few.
He has also worked with an array of well known producers including Steelie and Clevie, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, Hart Richards and Steven Stanley.
His very own independent label Doubleion Records was established and has seen the release of work from the likes of Beenie Man, Sizzla, Capleton, Little Hero, Teflon and others.
In 2009, King Hopeton was credited by Billboard Magazine for producing 12 of 15 rhythm tracks on Little Hero’s number one Billboard Reggae album Revelation.
He joined the multi award winning United Force Band in 1990. He has also recorded several singles, including King of Kings, Hard Times, My Destiny, and Can You See the Light, which is currently attracting major rotation on the Jamaican airwaves.
King is inspired by the profound teachings of King David and King Solomon; as such, he has written and recorded over 20 albums.
King also supports the Make a Wish Foundation.
King believes that his responsibility lies in being available to people of every nation color or creed whenever the need arises for his support, and most importantly, “sharing his knowledge and devotion to this cause (music), with a high level of consciousness.
