Group of Deviants is a project created by AJ Evans to showcase other musicians that he has met and/or worked with over the years and with whom he has written songs. It is a revolving door studio band being produced by AJ with no fixed ‘set’ of musicians giving him the freedom to still cover as many instruments as he pleases and then pull others in to work on the other tracks. While AJ is a veteran to the Internet music scene, being one of the first artists signed up to the now defunct mp3.com, Group of Deviants and the music in production for their first full album is not. Following a near-death battle that stretched 4 years, Group of Deviants was conceived shortly after the successful release of AJ's 'I May be a Stoner' in 2007, his way of announcing he had, in fact, survived. While the concept of G.o.D. did not move any further until AJ re-united with Ant Kremski, a.k.a ‘Shaggs’ from the ‘Stoner’ release, and penned 'Running at Full Speed' in late 2008 at which point other members were sought to join in the studio. Today there are three remaining members and after a cataclysmic and costly blow-up of the studio's computer setting the band back a year and a half in production of their first CD ‘In G.o.D. We Trust’ along with personnel problems. With the recovery process underway and the new line-up being created for live performances, the band released ‘ahh’ on April 1 2011 to a surprised listening audience. Holding back on the full 8:12 version for a later date, the ‘Radio Edit’ version has taken this band that no one knew about in March of 2011 and gave them a true presence. Their next release, ‘Closed’ is due the first week of May and AJ feels confident it will give the listeners of ‘ahh’ “complete whiplash” going from the classic 1970’s era rock to today’s more contemporary fusion of hip hop, alternative and euro pop.
