Lenard (Lenny) Fleming was born in New York. He jumped out with music in his blood and bones. The son of phenomenal percussionist Leopoldo Fleming, and the grandson of legendary latin bassist Leo Fleming, it was inevitable that he play. Taught the rudiments of percussion at an early age by his father, Lenny explored other instruments as he grew. While attending J.H.S. 125 in the Bronx, he studied saxophone while in the school band. His instructor saw fit to place him in the District 8 All Star Band. This allowed him to go to London, England and perform. While in JHS, along with his than and still friend Ronnie Gibbs, they formed their first band called Energy Source. Playing for schooldances and concerts, the young men honed their musical skills. They even caught the ear of than neighbor George Benson, who allowed the young men to record in his than garage recording studio. Lenny taught himself the keyboards, and was off to the races. After relocating to St. Thomas, in the Virgin Islands, he than caught the ear of Tony Benjamin at Charlotte Amalie High School, who asked him to join the Starlites. This became one of the premier bands in the Virgin Islands. After a long tenure with the Starlites, he later joined Deep Unda Kova, which also gained huge popularity locally. After relocating to St. Croix, Lenny became the musical director for the Code 9 Band, which also gained great popularity. While on St. Croix, Lenny also was a producer and audio engineer for Mountain Sounds & Video Productions. He produced albums for DJ HOTWAX, Code 9 and local artist. Lenny then moved to Orlando, Florida where he performed with Tropical Steel and various artist. In Orlando he became Minister of Music at Agape Healing & Deliverance Ministries and lent his services to other ministries in Central Florida. Now back in NYC, re-uniting with his childhood partner, Ronnie (Guitar Ron) Gibbs, and linking up with drumming sensation Richie Harrison, Lenny is on the move again.
