Bio:
Richard has been a musician for the majority of his life. His was a musical family, his father sharing song and story at every family gathering, and his brothers both playing guitar and singing. He learned his first instrument, the trombone, in grade school, and then began to play the piano and keyboards soon after. During high school, Richard was a member of the marching band, symphony orchestra, choir, pep band, jazz band, symphonic wind ensemble, and varsity chorale, and performed on many instruments including the trombone, french horn, bass guitar, and keyboards. He also was the only member of his senior class to write a show for the marching band program. Winning numerous awards in solo and ensemble contests, and performing across the nation with his high school jazz band and varsity chorale, Richard chose to pursue the career of musician. He traveled to Europe with a musical organization called American Music Abroad, and performed in several European countries, including Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, and England. After returning to the United States, he attended Baldwin-Wallace College's Conservatory of Music, where he performed in the symphonic wind ensemble, the symphony orchestra, jazz band, brass choir, collegium musicum early music ensemble, percussion ensmeble, and even performed as part of the prestigious Bach Festival Orchestra. He took part in several of the Conservatory's Composition Symposiums, studying under guitarist and composer Loris Chobanian. After graduating with a degree in Music History and Literature, Richard performed in numerous theatrical productions of musicals in the Northeast Ohio region, and began to study the folk music of England and Ireland. He became the musical director of the Great Lakes Medieval Faire and the Unionville Tavern Players, and founded the folk music group AnamChara, co-founded the Nautical and Folk music duo Porter & Stout, and has composed many songs and pieces of music, including the music for the John Davis' Ballade of Robyn Hood. His music is featured on over ten audio recordings including four solo CDs, and has performed across America, from Florida to Pennsylvania to Nebraska, and many major cities, including Atlantic City and New York City. Richard lives outside of Cleveland, Ohio, and continues to pursue his musical endeavors.
