On this album we perform some of the music close to our Celtic spirit. Awen was
the word bards employed to state their moments of trance, we chose it for the
way and significance that tunes, facts, and people in and out of Bran gave birth
to and made the whole project possible. We hope you’ll enjoy the following notes
and vibrate with these pieces next to our heart. In the name of BRAN, Eliseo

Awen (ar/emp)
We found this term suitable since the tune came out in an instant of magical
contact between the basic idea of ‘Xandru’, our guitar player, and the flowing
notes that came out from my whistle on D ...the same occured to the rest of
the band while matching their music as a whole.
1.- Tracks 2,3,4,and 5, span over the Celtic themes that I have always loved most.
From the traditional songs included I quote only the verses that felt more
intense for me in addition with the sounds of Mother Nature, in honour of our
ancient relationship with the environment.
Open the door softly (trad. arr. / emp)
This was the first tune I heard on Gaelic harp fourteen years ago. It’s a
lullaby collected in the 18th C. from the repertoire of the itinerant harper
Arthur O’Neill. I recall I was very impressed by it and since then I’ve grown
both with this ancient Irish melody and my love of the harp. I have added some
verses in gaelic and new music to the set.
La Dame Verte (emp/trad.arr.)
The belief in enchanted groves had always allured me very much. Even more when
I read about certain faerie ‘Green Ladies’ hidden behind trees , expecting for
wandering pedlars eager for elven dance. I felt that the theme of the Irish
song ‘Star of The County Down’ made a nice set with my own.
Morrigan & Dagda (emp)
On this tune I tried to convey the mystic endowed on two characters of the
mythical inhabitants of ancient Ireland: Morrigan, the Great War Goddess; and
Dagda, the High King and Good God.
Blackbird (trad arr/emp)
A love song I first heard from the singing of Andy Stewart (Scottish musician
related in the past with ‘Silly Wizard’) On this version I set aside the
actual structure of the theme and reflect my own feeling of the motif.
Dance by the Mill / Maneo of Imende (emp/trad)
I wrote the first set for the sake of my wife six years ago.The jig styled
structure is based upon a kind of dance popular in Galicia and Asturias in
Spain, called ‘muiñeira’. It was originally performed by couples during
gatherings held next to a mill. The following tune is a dance popular from a
town of Coruña in Galicia, sang here by the members of ‘Xoldra’ of the ‘Xeito
Novo’ Foundation from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Loch Liath (mc)
This tune was inspired by our fiddler while staring at a large lake in
Guatemala. The music recreates the calm and pleasant sensations of the sounds
of ripples and the vibration of pebbles on the shore.
Añada/ Rambling Boatman (trad.arr.)
The 1st tune was collected from the repertoire of Xuacu Amieva, an Asturian
piper whom I knew in the ‘90s. It’s a lullaby sang in Asturian language
(bable). I first heard the second tune played by the Manx harpist Charles
Guard. Collected under the name of ‘Arrane Ghelbee’ by Sophia Morrison on the
west coast of the Isle of Man in the beginning of this century, it became
known by people who at times caught sight of an old man sitting on a strange
boat who sang verses running up and down the scale with the lilt of the waves;
the words were never distinguished because the boat was far offshore. He could
be seen at close of some summ
