Emphasis Records is pleased to announce the licensing of a master recording from our catalog, "Only You", performed by recording artist and 2018 GRAMMY recipient Stevie Hawkins, for inclusion in a new thriller film tentatively titled, "Vengeance". Directed by Dallas Jackson (Rebel - BET TV series, South of Nowhere, The Last Dragon) and produced by Jackson along with Greg Gilreath, Adam Hendricks, and John H. Lang, the story revolves around a childhood prank that comes back to haunt a clique of South Central Los Angeles teens when their victim returns home during their high-school Homecoming weekend. Written by Jackson and Ken Rance (New In Town - Renée Zellweger, The Good Son - Macaulay Culkin), the film is currently in post-production, produced by Divide / Conquer Productions, with an expected 2018 release distributed by Blumhouse Productions.

"Only You" is a soulful original song from Hawkins' award-winning Soul/Funk/R&B album titled "What The Funk?". The song is co-written with Charlotte Hannon, published by Hannon Hawkins Music, BMI, and released on Emphasis Records.

Music Supervisor, Paul Stewart, along with Music Coordinator, Rayshon Harris, selected "Only You" for inclusion in the film. Stewart's long-lauded instinct for finding the right song at the right moment has made him a valued and in-demand music consultant and entertainment marketer. He is a veteran in music supervision with credits in over thirty-five films including: "Hustle & Flow" (Academy Award for Best Original Song), "Four Brothers", "2 Fast 2 Furious", and "Poetic Justice" (Academy Awards nomination for Best Original Song - "Again" by Janet Jackson). Rayshon Harris is the Senior Director of Product Management at GMUSIC Group/Sony Entertainment. Ms. Harris is credited for her work as a music producer on the releases of: "The Best Of Snoop Dogg", "NWA: The World’s Most Dangerous Group" (VH1 Rock Docs), "Ice Cube: The Essentials", "No Limit ‘s Greatest Hits", and "The Best Of D'Angelo". As a film and television producer she is credited for her work on: "All In The Name Of God" (Diamond Films), "Lou Rawls Parade Of Stars" (WLIW-NY, local network affiliate), and "Love Between The Sexes" (Black Entertainment Television-BET).

When asked about his reaction to the song being licensed for the film, Hawkins conveyed, "This is very exciting news for co-writer Charlotte Hannon, Emphasis Records and myself. Receiving communication from Mr. Stewart regarding licensing Only You for the film was one of the oh-so familiar situations in the music business, when you least expect something to happen, it does. Came clear out of the blue. I am truly honored that Mr. Paul Stewart and Ms. Rayshon Harris selected the song for the film, to be a part the production and its stellar cast and crew."

Casting Director Kim Hardin (Think Like A Man, Billy Madison, Blair Witch), brings a dynamic cast of actors to the production. Familiar stars include, Mykelti Williamson (Fences, Forrest Gump, Free Willy, Con-Air), Vanessa Bell Calloway (Coming To America, What's Love Got To Do With It, The Inkwell, Grey's Anatomy), Vanessa Williams (Candyman, Sugar Mommas, Incognito, New Jack City), Tequan Richmond (Ray, Blue Caprice, CSI, General Hospital), Pepi Sonuga (The Fosters, Famous In Love, Ash vs. Evil Dead, Mortal Combat X), Kurt Alexander a.k.a. Big Boy (Duece Bigalow, Charlie's Angels, Entourage, The Longest Yard) and Maestro Harrell (Ali, Barbershop, CSI: NY, Bone Tomahawk).

The composer for the film is multi-talented record producer, rapper, musician, actor, filmmaker, Robert Diggs, better known as RZA. RZA is a prominent person in hip-hop music, member and producer of the GRAMMY nominated hip-hop group, Wu-Tang Clan. Deeply involved in film since the late 1990s, RZA has composed music for a number of films including, "The Man with the Iron Fists", "Kill Bill: Volume 1", and "Meet the Blacks".
