Bio:
Aerials Up are a mind blowing seven-piece band from Glasgow, Scotland. Despite only forming just over a year ago, the band has had an amazingly successful year. They’ve created a lot of industry chatter, picked up awards, as well as high profile fans along the way. Aerials Up kicked off 2011 as they mean to go on, with a sold out headline show at The Arches in Glasgow as part of Celtic Connections Festival. They’ve also been hotly tipped this year by the likes of Vic Galloway (after performing a handful of live sessions on his BBC Radio Scotland Show) and The Sun, who named them as one of their ‘Class of 2011 - Eight Who Could Be Great’. Most recently Aerials Up launched their Debut EP 'Superglue' at King Tuts in Glasgow. The Ep is now available on iTunes and the band will be taking to the road in the coming weeks. At the end of last year the band won the Emerging Talent Award at the Scottish music industries, biggest, black tie event – The Tartan Clef Awards 2010. Festival appearances include a headline slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at Scotland’s largest festival, T In The Park as well as a slot at the Wickerman Festival. They have also found support and fans in some of the biggest stars around. Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody has continued to invite the band to perform at sold out arena gigs including a support slot this summer in front of a 26,000 strong crowd at Bellahouston Park. Gary strongly believes Aerials Up are on their way, saying of Kemy’s song-writing abilities for songs like “Superglue” and “Stay Awake” "Kemy is one of Scotland's finest young songwriters and has a way with a chorus I am covetous of." In addition, one of Scotland’s biggest names, Paolo Nutini regularly comes to Aerials Up gigs to watch the band and hang out with them; he has genuinely become one of Aerials Up’s greatest fans. Paolo continues to show his support and has invited the band to perform with him several times, including a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall and a recent BBC 2 In Concert performance recording with Jo Whiley in Paisley. Aerials Up have also found the BBC very supportive. They’ve performed a live session on BBC Radio 1 with Vic Galloway gaining their headline slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at T In The Park which also resulted in the band’s debut television appearance on BBC 3’s festival coverage. On Dec 30th the band did a session for Jo Whiley again on BBC 2. On top of that, Aerials Up supported The Futureheads and most recently Irish rockers Ash on the Scottish leg of their tour. A recent Scottish tour gained the band a great deal more local exposure with each town they played giving support, from Dundee features to performing a live session on Moray Firth Radio in Inverness. “Another cool band from Scotland. What’s going on up there? Whatever it is I love it. Move over Frightened Rabbit I may have a new fave Scottish band.” Todd Dunnigan, musician / fan from USA
