On January 22nd, after a 36 hour journey to this world, I was born Arielle Emily Paul to a fiery British lass and nice Jewish boy from Jersey. Spent most of my childhood on a tour bus and was infamously known for stealing my dad’s microphone during his soundchecks with the Grammy-winning vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer. During this time, I learned to tie my shoes the wrong way, shared the stage with Dionne Warwick and Ray Charles, and discovered while on a pit stop at an Italian McDonalds that french-fries dipped in chocolate mousse is a revelation.
My style and songwriting has been inspired and influenced by many great artists including Billie Holiday, The Beatles, The Black Keys, Anita O'Day, Serge Gainsbourg, Bob Dylan, The Ting Tings, Amy Winehouse, Janis Joplin, Rufus Wainwright, Simon and Garfunkel and Django Reinhardt. I’m also influenced by Monty Python. And the French. And Birkin and Indian food…
I’ve had the recent pleasure of recording at the Matrix studio as well as at Matt Sorum’s (Guns n Roses) fab artist hideaway. Matt graced my feel-good tune, “Funny Feeling,” with his rockin’ drummin' along the stellar Paul Bushnell (Lady Gaga/Adam Lambert/Katy Perry) on bass and co-writer Aaron Renner (Jordin Sparks/Jennifer Hudson) on guitar. On an unplugged note, Adam Hawley’s (The Manhattan Transfer/Jessy J) soulful strumming gave a bluesy edge to the lovesick confessional, “In Bed.”
More music to come, including my feisty, f*ck you anthem, “Blame It On You” and the indie-rock, retro infused pumper, "Better Red Than Dead." Stay tuned for upcoming videos, performances and news via Facebook, Myspace, SoundCloud and Twitter.
Thanks for supporting the music ~ Peace, love and rock n roll!
