Stagolee began as a blues duo out of Starkville, Mississippi. STAGOLEE's original members, Jim Kent (Jimmy K) and Katie Robertson, met at Starkville's finest watering hole, Dave's Darkhorse Tavern. They began playing together in 2002, incorporating each other's original music into their set. Influenced by several different genres and artists, they negotiated on an eclectic selection of music. On their acoustic guitars and piano, Jimmy K and Katie played around Starkville and surrounding Mississippi areas over the next few years, before moving to Nashville, Tennessee. Stagolee performed around Nashville, and the South East as a four piece, playing primarily original music, with Steve Cummings on bass to help out, and whomever they could to sit in on drums. The music is great, the lyrics are compelling and the sound was raw and rockin' for sure. They completed their first professional Demo cd in January 2008 (Stagolee and Fancyface), with the help of Matthew Watson on drums and percussion, who was added before the recording, in November of 2007. Bringing the beat, he would complete the band and the sound. A new dimension was then added to the music in spring of 2008, with Breck Cooper (from Meridian, Mississippi) on electric bass. His rock roots pushed the band in a new direction, which was felt all along. Next enters M.C. Gordy (also from Meridian) in the spring of 2010 to give more depth and sound to the band on keys, piano and percussion. With an already extensive library of original music, the list of new material is constantly growing.
