Bio:

Something extraordinary happened on a rather ordinary day in April of 2008. After running a classified ad in the local newspaper, which simply read “Singer Wanted”, band members TJ and Nick Gay and Kody Meier were more than a bit surprised when a young woman clad in a hoody, ripped jeans and smirk zipped up the driveway on a blue moped. She chose to audition with “Enter Sandman” by Metallica, and left the trio speechless with her perfect pitch and powerful vocals. One, quick unanimous vote later, Courtney Huyck was their lead singer… and Circus Asylum was born.

The band continued to play gigs around the Central Michigan area throughout the summer of ’08, but it wasn’t until TJ brought a co-worker into the garage to jam with the band, that they truly found their sound. Guitar player Zach Davis joined Circus a week later. The following week, the band met a West Michigan local-turned-national band named Pop Evil, who not only became mentors, but also friends to this young band with so much promise, but little experience.

By the summer of 2009, Circus Asylum was opening for nationals such as Smile Empty Soul, Pop Evil and Framing Hanley. They finished their self titled EP and embarked on their first national tour in Fall of ’09, which took them to L.A and back and had them playing notable venues such as the world famous “Whiskey a Go-Go”. In fact, that very gig garnered them a rave review in Sugarbuzz Magazine, an L.A music scene staple.

With a national tour under their belt and an arsenal of music written and ready, the band entered the studio in 2010 with Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Trust Company) and came out with a nearly complete first full length CD ‘Welcome to the Carnival’. They toured throughout 2010 with both Egypt Central and 12 Stones as they worked on material to finish the project.

January of 2011 had Circus Asylum playing as support for Pop Evil as they toured the Midwest and East Coast and finally returned to the studio to record their debut single “Numb”, which was the final piece of the project and the single that was worth the wait. “Numb” is set for a radio release this summer as Circus Asylum launches their first full length CD and hits the road.
