Raised on a small farm in rural Saskatchewan during the tough economic times of the ‘80’s, J.J. grew up identifying closely with the under-dog out-law music with heros like Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Steve Earle to name a few. With over 15 years of live performances under his belt, J.J. has come by his electric stage presence honestly. Early highlights include shows on Canada Summer Games stage ’06 , Juno fest showcase in ’07 and Nashville North Stage for the Stampede in Calgary, August 26th 2008 marked the release of his debut record entitled “ Hillbilly Storybook” and he has been hard at it playing shows throughout Canada and the U.S. getting his music out there. With return calls on Craven Country Jamboree stage 2008, 2009 and 2010, as well as opening for Johnny Reid on the Molson stage for the Regina Exhibition in 2009 and an opening set for Raul Malo at 12th and Porter in Nashville Tennessee and an opening set warming up for The Road Hammers in 2009 J.J. continues to hold his own and turn heads up along side the big dogs. Fall of 2010 and early 2011 finds J.J. beginning work on his sophomore album in Nashville with music city icon Harry Stinson (Steve Earle, Martina McBride, Marty Stuart.etc..etc.) producing... The working title for the album is " Show 'em Who's Voss" and will be out sometime in fall of 2011 and with it J.J. will continue to carve his niche not too far from country but close enough to rock. 2011 promises to be a big year for J.J. Voss.
