Jaclyn Reinhart isn’t sure when it all changed — when the stars aligned, her ship came in and the chords all fell in place.
Reinhart has been playing music for years, but it wasn’t until recently that she was able to combine her passion and sincerity, her talent and drive, and to connect with the bandmates that could help her craft the pop-laden hooks she heard in her head.
The talented Fredericton-based singer-songwriter has taken her music to another level with Favorite Mistakes — the new five-song EP by The Jaclyn Reinhart Band, which features the bubbly, headstrong frontwoman on guitar and vocals, Tony Patterson on bass, Jessy Ashfield on piano and backup vocals, Camilo Villamizar on lead guitar and Jeff DiPaolo on drums.
Recorded at the East Coast Music Awards-nominated studio Outreach Productions, the album veers from the radio-friendly girl-pop piano hooks of Corner of My Eye, to the moody One Day, to the edgier rock sounds of the band’s break-out track Oil And Water — a personal reflection on the dissolution of Reinhart’s marriage.
"Oil and Water is about my ex-husband and I. It's about realizing that something isn't working in your life and being able to move on from it,” she said.
“It really is a good representation of the way that I live my life. If you know something's not right, you give it another chance. But if it doesn't work out, you've got to walk away."
Reinhart, who has ranked in the Top 20 in the Montreal Lilith Fair Competition and who played several successful showcases at the 2011 ECMAs in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, is lining up a busy touring schedule for the summer in support of the group’s debut.
It’s a chance to show people what the band has been able to accomplish over the past two years.
"I have a huge sense of accomplishment. I'm very proud of the album. I'm proud of the work that went into it, not just by myself but by all of the people who touched it," she said.
"It's finally being able to say, 'This is what I can do. This is for you.' It's one of the most important things I've done in my life, outside of being a mom."
