- American Sweetgum is a multi-genre project created by Jay Freddy. From rock to pop tunes he signifies his sound with his unique vocals. Apart of Sweetgum’s project is to experiment widely in genres and also bringing in other vocalist to be features.The best part about making music is the freedom to be creative and express yourself with others who love the same art as you. Working a full time job doesn’t stop me from writing songs in my head while I’m stocking the shelves. I’ve written most of my songs in my car, drinking Red Bull, trying to stay awake long enough to record a scratch vocal. It’s what I love to do and I’m at my happiest when I’m creating new music with others. You never know what style song I will put out or who will be featured on it. It’s all about the process and enjoying it. I am inspired by every song, every artist, that I hear, because I find connections in chords, lyrics, and unraveling the message. I get so addicted to the craft. If I’m not making music, I’m most likely singing karaoke.
