Kiya was born on March 18 and raised in Columbia, SC by a single mother. She was born the eldest of two children. She began singing at the young age of six and has performed in several school choirs, church choirs, a local community center, as well as a local Teen Idol competition for the Richland County Library system in Columbia, SC.
