Jiraiya is a band that was a long time in the making. Schuyler Clayton and Andrew Franklin had written many songs over the years since they first started playing music together when they were 16. They had always wanted to make a full length album of original material that had no genre boundaries. Thus Jiraiya was born. The band was founded by Schuyler and Andrew in the spring of 2008. Schuyler and Andrew spent most of the summer of 2008 writing material for something they had been planning for years, the full length album. Schuyler wrote several tracks using a digital 8 track recorder with the intention of using the tracks as pre-production for a full length album. Andrew Franklin took these songs and brought them to life in a very original form of his drumming. To get this project out in the public, they were joined by brilliant bassist and all around great musician, Eric Swann. Eric took some of the bass lines Schuyler had written and spiced them up a bit to add an even more original feel and also wrote many of his own bass lines. Eric has a key sense of where a song needs to go. Jiraiya rarely gave Eric's ideas a pass, in fact we pretty much kept everything he suggested. Then followed by Nathan "Tron" Hawkins. Tron brought 2 great tracks to the table that found their way to be recorded and will initially be on the full length album. He helped restructure some of the songs that were written before the initial lineup took place and co-wrote many tracks on the album. They also have a part time guest vocalist from Asheville, NC by the name of Myers Gilmer. Myers contacted Jiraiya through one of his bands myspace pages. The band is Lecivius and they are an extremely talented band. Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/lecivius.
