Formed in 2008, West of the Shore could be considered the inevitable outcome of a long musical friendship. Currently, they find themselves giving up their jobs and their homes for a fuller life filled with music on the road. West of the Shore, "the band," consists of just two members, each bringing their own unique personalities and talents to the group. Nicole Coutlangus on Vocals, Guitar, and Percussion, and Joe Gualtier on Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, Harmonica, and Banjo. Together, they blend folk roots music and vocal harmony with country, bluegrass, and blues influences. After just a year of playing together, Nicole and Joe moved to Bearsville, NY, in the heart of the Catskill Mountains. "We moved up there because of the history. Bob Dylan, The Band, Van Morrison all lived up there in the 60's and made great music. We just wanted to experience a little bit of that" says Joe. It was during those first winter months that they realized how much music was really going to play a part in their lives. "We were up there, it was cold and dark in the middle of winter. We had no phone, no tv, no computer, and no heat. All we had was a piano and before we knew it we were playing Beatles tunes and singing in two part harmonies" says Nicole. It was in those mountains that West of the Shore truly came into its own. Songs of lost love, adventure, and times past were written during those cold nights, as their unique vocal harmony also began to blossom. Now based out of Harrisburg, PA, West of the Shore tours the country, bringing their version of Americana to the stage where they strive to put on intimate shows filled with energy, honesty, and great tunes.
