I'm a simple country man who loves to share my God-given gift of song with Lovers of Music. You might say that my voice & style is what you get when Hank Williams Jr. meets Tom Jones or Waylon Jennings. LOL
In my own words: I was born the first of three sons to Herman & Betty Johnson in Richmond, Va. My parents both remarried when I was 10 years old & I spent a lot of my younger days with my Dad. That's where I was musically influenced. Dad could play anything that had strings & Dad lost his Dad at age 14. He also played guitar & that's where he was influenced. Dad still has my Grand dad's guitar. I started learning music at the age of eleven, then started writing songs. Got married at a young age(right out of school). I thought I was grown since I had lived a hard-working youth & after my mother remarried a farmer & I learned about work real fast. Still had dreams of doing something with my music all through my early manhood of retail, factory & construction work. I had a few early bands with potential & we played anything from Country, Rock, Southern Rock & Blues. Didn't really realize what Blues was all about until a spiritual experience with Mr. Blues around 2003. Now I love playin' the Blues. As a friend told me some time ago, "you don't get the Blues - the Blues gets you". I quit playin' the public scene for approximately 15 years & only played & sang in Church. After having a rocky late year marriage, quitting a long term job & losing a couple jobs, I decided to dig back to my musical roots & I have been making a good part of my living with music since then. My musical goal is to leave a mark that touches a lot of folk & fame is not in that picture.
My famous musical influences are: Ronnie Van Zant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Sr., Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Elvis, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Albert King, Robben Ford, Robert Johnson & Chuck Berry.
I have made a few recordings of the songs I have written & I am looking forward to recording more for anyone who will listen. Today's music doesn't do much for me. That's why I dig back to my roots & my life's experiences to seek inspiration. - Ronnie Johnson
