Just some notes on the recordings...
Track #2, "Aint No Sunshine" This is a Bill Withers tune. its a tune Ive dug for ever it seems, and a few years back we thougt we'd give it a shot and see if I could put a little "me" into it so... this is our interpretation of Bill's awsome song. I'm not really a singer,so I tried to make the guitar express with its voice what I cant do with mine.
Tracks #1,#3 and #5 feature some other dear friends of mine.
On bass/backup vocals,Craig Wheatley. He and I jammed for years in other incarnations and "HippieRock" bands, sticking in a few of the originals whenever we thought we could, and these songs were some of those.Craig and I connected from the start, through the music. Craig is married and has two wonderful children, and though we havent been in a band making music together in quite awhile,we will always have a connection.Craig is more than a friend,he is my brother...the music brought us together, the love kept it that way.
Also,on those tracks is Jamey Reid on Percussion(I couldnt get him to sing..haha). Jamey is a special dude to me in many ways. Not only is he a very knowledgable and talented musician,he is a good teacher and friend. Jamey taught me alot of things about music that I actually knew...I just didnt know they actually WERE something...he explained what they were, and how it all went together. It was like turning on a light in my head,as far as playing goes. It made me play better, well he made me play better because...well,because he is just awsome.
The beautiful female voice you hear on those tracks is another friend and musicain,Sarah Flint. I had heard a female voice in my head when those songs were played, and since I had known Sarah for years...from my beginings as a street musician in Bloomington...and thought she just had an awsome voice,I asked her and she was more than willing to help. I think her parts just nailed it..I only wish I could sing better:)
Dan Dolan is also helping out on the backup vocals on those tracks. Dan actually came in to play the keyboards on Tracks #1 and #3,I didnt really know he could sing. When he asked to sing and I heard him,I felt it was a great fit for these particular songs.
"God Above"-
Craig's dad,Joe,played the Dobro and we would get together and jam sometimes. Joe was always really supportive of the music, even though I didnt think rock was really his thing. He came a long way on a few occasions to be at some of our shows. Joe was an awsome dude. Joe passed away from a heart attack in February of 2006. After the awsome service they had I went back to a friends where I was staying the night and as I was drifting off to sleep, thinking of the experience I had had that day,and not being quite able to put my finger on the feelings I had,a song came to me...all at once, lyrics, music, arrangement, like it was just drifting through the air and I happened to be in the way. This song is my present for the Wheatleys.I always wanted Craig's mom to hear this song, perhaps now she will.
