This classic ensemble of solid funk rhythms and organic horn lines is Los Angeles’s latest offering to the exploding West Coast funk scene, sealing the gap between the old and new schools of sweet funky soul. Drawing from the natural energy forces emanating from California’s diverse landscape, The MASON AFFAIR delivers the positive vibes of good time funk, dance, and soul music that will get you moving and grooving.

Founded in early 2011 by Mike Mason, the MASON AFFAIR formed piece by piece through jam sessions with the most talented musicians around bringing friends old and new together with a unique blend of musical influences and backgrounds. Cramming a full rhythm and horn section into a tiny studio built to hold half as many people forced The MASON AFFAIR to truly connect with each other and dive deep into their musical souls, crafting many original songs and throwing down their own gritty versions of classic jams by The Meters, Dr. John, Sly and the Family Stone, and Jimi Hendrix. Influenced by legendary raw funk powerhouses like Dyke and the Blazers, and James Brown the MASON AFFAIR pay tribute to their influences by giving a modern touch to vintage funk and soul.

In May 2012 The MASON AFFAIR released their much anticipated debut album Eyes on Fire which features raw and funky cuts like “All Night,” “I Can Tell You,” and “Hush” while songs like “First Time Again,” “Eyes on Fire,” and the sonically sensual instrumental, “Spend Some Time” forge a new direction in the genre of Soul. Keeping a busy schedule of live shows and constantly evolving new material and ideas, The MASON AFFAIR is stepping out into your world, ready to make you move, groove, and let it all hang out, expanding that funky West Coast feeling to a world hungry for soul.
