ARTIST PROFILE: PRINCE MYDAS, Singer, Composer, Performer & Producer Reggae with an Urban, R & B, Soulful Feel At a smoky bar in Kingston, Jamaica, music pulsates from the speakers; a five-year old boy, in the company of his grandfather, suddenly feels the music and spins in circles as he dances. This is the day Prince Mydas discovers rhythm lives in his soul. This is the moment that births his intense passion for music, a passion that one day will lead him to script and sing the songs he hears in his head. By the end of his schooldays, he will have made the first step towards a career in music with a self-produced single featuring the ballad “So Lost Without You”. The song is accepted by Jammys, Jamaica’s most successful record label. With the exposure gained from airplay of his single, Prince Mydas was asked to become lead singer for the acclaimed reggae band, Ruff Kutt. For several years, he learned the art and business of music first-hand as the group opened for Shabba Ranks and Patra on international tours. Prince Mydas then explored the music scenes in both Miami and New York which eventually led to his appearance on Shaggy’s multi-platinum album, “Hotshot”.Prince Mydas’ song “Hope” was featured on the soundtrack of the Kevin Costner movie, “For The Love Of The Game” and shortly thereafter, work began on a collection of songs that would showcase Mydas’ sensual, silky-smooth voice and writing talent. One of them, “Still The One”, an ode to a time-tested love, was featured on the soundtrack of the 2002 Eddie Murphy/Robert De Niro big-screen release “Showtime”. The result is a tantalizing mix that introduces many facets of the Mydas sound which is an enticing blend of R&B, soul, and reggae. The tracks are built around the familiar themes of love, sweet love, spiritual love, and a touch of love run amok. Like many a Neo-Soul artist, he skips the booty calling and sings to the heart. It wasn’t hard to open up, says Mydas. “I decided long ago that I would put everything I have into every word and every line, so what I sing is what I feel.” The folding of former record label MCA in 2003 railroaded the release of Mydas’ first album. Prince Mydas, however, formed his own label with longtime pal and writing-mate, Rik Rok from “It Wasn’t Me” fame. His second CD, “Made For Stage” has also been released under his label MOBA Entertainment; and, with Mydas now in full control of his destiny, a broader listening public will finally be able to put the voice with the face and the electric performances that Prince Mydas has been known for in many international circles. “If You Let Me”, “Here Comes The Rain”, “Sleep Alone” and “Up In Da Club” are just a few of the teasing titles and hot singles featured on this CD.Prince Mydas is now back in the studio working on his 3rd solo CD which takes on another dimension, showcasing his diverse vocal and writing abilities. Of this latest project he says, “I believe music is the heartbeat of God so I make my music to inspire, uplift and bring healing to the soul.” Expect to hear these rocking and inspirational tunes in early 2011.Prince Mydas has performed internationally either with or preceding Patra, Shabba Ranks, Shaggy, UB40, Bobby Brown, TLC and many more acclaimed artists in venues in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Japan, Thailand, Colombia, Reunion Island and many other countries. He has also played the famed Apollo Theatre and Madison Square Garden in New York City as well as Prince Albert Hall in London. He’s not just a singer but also a performer; he tantalizes the audience with his voice, command of the stage and visual showcase.
