From hauntingly beautiful melodies to catchy upbeat tunes, In The Attic personifies melodic rock. Starting out in 2007 as "Moodswing", a cover band performing a regular slot at Rust Lounge and News Café. It was around that time that core members Christiaan and Ivy wrote a song called Devil On My Shoulder and decided to bring it into the repertoire. A great crowd response and a few weeks later the song was being requested by the audience and they were singing along. This was the artistic turning point for the two songwriters when a management company approached the band to perform at Aardklop 2007. With less than two weeks to prepare 12 songs they sat down and started writing. They received a great crowd response and some of those tunes made it to the album. Armed with great songs and clear and expressive lyrics they decided to record their ideas at B Sharp studios in Boksburg. Ivy Started singing and playing piano at the age of six. Distracted is a song on the album she wrote when she was fifteen. Listening to Queen, Foreigner, Boston, Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson and Tracy Chapman as a kid influenced her own style of writing and composing. For the cover band she also listened to the likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Nina Simone to obtain the soulful sound of the jazz singer. Christiaan Started out as a rock guitarist and went on to study music at TUT. He is also a music teacher and sound engineer but mainly focuses his time on the original band, arranging and writing alongside Ivy. Banele A Self taught drummer who’s been in the music scene for a long time. Not only an amazing drummer with a unique feel but also a piano and guitar player.
