Dear Comrade's music is as diverse as the personal histories and influences of it's musicians. The founding member, Arthur Kremer, started his music career as the drummer with the popular, indie-rock band Stellastarr*. Several years ago, Kremer began writing solo material, singing and playing guitar. After developing a significant body of work and previewing this work at open mics around Brooklyn, NY., he was joined by female vocalist Stefani "DeX" Peikin and guitarist Emmett Aiello. DeX, a classically trained singer, regularly performed with New York cult-hero, Reverand Billy. Dex's soulfully bombastic vocals created a fresh counterpoint to Arthur’s balanced, European voice. Similarly, guitarist Emmett Aiello's raw sound, influenced mostly by American roots music, stood in stark contrast to Kremer's moody and melodic writing. However, Aiello's perceptive ear and keen musical sensibilities dovetailed nicely with Arthur’s desire to create a varying tone from song to song. Once the trio had played together for a few months, they auditioned several drummers before finding Dennis Lehrer. Most recently Dennis had been the drummer in Autodrone, an alternative/experimental rock group with several albums and tours under their belt. Dennis’ stylistic versatility and quick read of the DC sound made him an obvious choice. Soon after, bassist Tim Jansen joined up with the group. Serendipitously, Tim had just moved to Brooklyn from Texas, where he was a member of The Hourly Radio, who had toured with Stellastarr* years before. Tim was a quick fit with Dear Comrade, rounding out the sound with powerful grooves and imaginative fills. The Dear Comrade sound has been described as “eclectically rich” and "cinematic", a testament to the diversity of the band members as well as the city in which they live. Currently the band is recording a full length LP, while playing shows around New York City.
