Sand’Man, was born and raised in East Oakland, California. Having absorbed the rich and potent culture as well as the effects of the socio-economic issues of an instant gratification world, he developed a keen awareness of himself and those who became victims of the scandals of the ruling class. That same awareness has made him a passionate artist with an innate and almost eerie ability to engage his listeners. Stepping out of the house he grew up in and seeing the desperation of both the dealers and the users cycling in and out of the ever-revolving doors of crack houses drove him away from desperation and gave him an unyielding will to seek an alternative to the status quo. While it was an auditory exercise to listen for gunshots, coming of age, Sand’Man’s ears were also uniquely attuned to hearing and isolating the music in his experiences. He has cultivated his vocal ingenuity and narrative spirit, while making time to guide those growing up in the bewilderment of the street. He's taught from a culturally relevant curriculum to high school aged youth in Oakland, while he himself was still in his teens. So, as stories of the inner-city and hood noir are so prevalent in today’s popular music, particularly the perspective of the invincible pusher, as an alternative, Sand’Man offers the perspective of a mind tempered by violence on a quest for peace of mind. His music is intensely introspective yet simultaneously universal, set familiarly in the concrete catacombs of “…the U.S. of A’s armpit, where the funk is on, on some Agent Orange s***, warfare galore yea chaos carnage…”
