Ozichi is an inspirational and Gospel musician and songwriter, having a unique style that blends the richness of Soft-Rock with the uniqueness of other genres. She currently has two singles out: 'Original 9ja'; a refreshing and hip technodance song that appreciates Nigeria and Nigerians, and 'Why I Go Home'; a beautiful ballad rich in lyrical composition and delivered ever so beautifully in a way that will well you up with sweet emotion. Both songs can be listened to on her facebook, MySpace, iLike, and Reverbnation pages! Her full album is eagerly expected in 2011. The first of four siblings and raised in a family that was very musically cultured her father Udochuku Uwakaneme (MSc Harvard 1966) was the only black student to feature in the first musical MACBETH stage play in University of Ibadan in the 1960s, and her mum was always known as a the “high soprano” in church and among family and friends for she had a light voice and was always singing! She grew up listening to a lot of classical music and pop, the likes of Beethoven, Bach, Brahn, the Beatles, Abba, and watching musical movies like Iolanthe, Mikado, etc. Ozichi and her siblings would very often pick up a song and sing it using all the musical parts, entertaining family and friends with small parlor-size musical sketches and presentations. Her parents constanty encouraged the children to sing. At the age of 16 in her final year in secondary school, Ozichi started a club called TEENAGE REALITY CLUB (TRC), and gathered her friends, family and church members. The club was aimed at spreading the love of God through music. In 1997 they staged (with a little help from their parents) a mini-concert at MENDE TOWN HALL titled LIGHT UP THE WORLD, a music and dance compilation. Ticket proceedings and generous donations were donated to the S.O.S children’s village. After the concert some of the audience were so impressed the club was given successive bookings at various Christmas parties including Author Anderson Consulting End of Year Party. In her college campus days at University of Port-Harcourt she was often invited to sing at programs and events, and even though she studied Biochemistry, everyone knew her as a dancer (Spirit of David member) and a singer! On campus she was Music Director for THE LIVING CHURCH the whole of her 3rd year and led the choir to a successful musical level. Her singing profile continued to develop even when she went to Ghana to study under The University of The Nations at YWAM Tema Ghana. There in Ghana, she joined a Group ‘DANNY and the NUBREEZE’ who went on to record and release their first album which gained popularity as a contemporary Ghanaian gospel album. She also featured as BackGroundVocalist in Diana Akiwumi’s album (Diana is the current President of Musician’s Union of Ghana-MUSIGA), also featuring occasionally as her Back-up Vocalist at live events. Over the years OZICHI has contributed to the Nigerian music industry and Advert world as songwriter/composer for quite a number of independent artists and some major brands in Nigeria.
