Jacob, Ian and Andrew were floor-mates at Rhoads Hall in VCU. The following years Jacob and Ian accumulated material and played with other various people until Fall 2009 where Andrew was finally able to have his drum set in Richmond. At that time they established their band name as "Orient". They started playing with Seth Walden during the summer of 2010 after cycling through various other musicians. After their first four shows their name was changed to "Shoot the Moon" after a vintage name Jacob mysteriously found in his attic. In October they recorded their EP, which includes songs such as Savior, Pathos, Old Friend, and Familiar Territory. It was recorded in one day from No Control Studios in Richmond.
