- Phil and Jason started writing songs way back in 2001. Then, in early 2009, we recruited some other members and it was on! We are really unlike anyone you've heard before.. yet, strangely familiar sounding (as described by our fans). Give a listen, we think you'll be glad you did. We are Sydney Funnel. We chose the name from the Sydney funnel web spider - which is one of the most deadly spiders in the world. That fact, though, is not the reason we chose the name. The reason is the manner that this spider kills. Instead of a venom that slowly shuts down its victims, the funnel web spider has a cocktail of neuro-toxins that EXCITE every part of the body until it burns itself out!! So we thought it was fitting to name ourselves after this creature since that is what we want to do with our music. We want it to EXCITE our listeners - make them get up and move - make them think and question their everyday existence and strive to be better individuals. http://sydneyfunnel.com
