Bio:: With his sophomore album, “Timely Evolution” King Ashoka combines provocative street poetry with hot club tracks to create the most imaginative musical collaboration to come out of the Dallas hip hop scene yet. This emotionally charged masterpiece has been four years in the making and the result is an eclectic collection of fierce rhymes and original get-your-blood-flowing beats. Ashoka has long been known for his gritty voice and in-your-face performance style and this project does not disappoint. Full of raw emotion, “Timely Evolution” takes the listener on Ashoka’s journey of pleasure and pain as he battles his way to the forefront of life. Nearly every track offers lessons from his years as a struggling artist. Each song is chalk full of his experiences with family, drugs, women, violence, betrayal-even death. When asked what sets him apart from other MC’s, his constant response is, “I tell the truth.” And it is this deep desire to enlighten and inspire that drives his creativity. He is more than a performer. He is a loving Father, Teacher, Artist & Leader. This should be no surprise from a man named for the Indian Emperor known for his benevolence and lasting moral edicts. His sound, most closely resembling a mix between Scarface, Petey Pablo and Mystikal has also helped to earn him a considerable local following. On “Timely Evolution” Ashoka takes it even further by bringing together some of the most notable talent to come out of Texas. Erykah Badu, Gemini, Paul wall and M Dot are among the artists that bring their award-winning skills out for creatively inspiring collaborations on this album. Until now, King Ashoka has been largely unknown outside of Dallas, but that is changing rapidly. In October, his song “Life Is” was featured on ABC’s acclaimed show Lincoln Heights and last spring his song “Fire It Up” was on the soundtrack of the feature film “The Benchwarmers” starring David Spade, Rob Schneider and Jon Heder. With the upcoming release of “Timely Evolution” The Juggernaut that is King Ashoka is certain to be on a collision course with Hip-Hop History.
