Manicato, started with Israel Matos jamming with a diverse group of young musicians in a Mission District garage forging a Latin Reggae sound that incorporates all the wealth of music they hear reverberating around them from all over Latin America and the Caribbean. Later they recruit Israel’s father, Cris, to add his authentic Puerto Rican vocal sound to this unique blend, grounding it a firmly rooted traditional sound. The band features a powerful horn section, Danny Cao-trumpet, arrangements and Alan "Trombon" Williams, that builds nuanced lines that merge modern and traditional styles with unexpected twists of funk and rock, while staying true to Latin rhythms and influence.
