When this acoustic-driven duo combined forces as Sunny Side Up in 2008, they could not imagine that two years later their self-written and published songs would be aired on MTV, Animal Planet, Planet Green, VH-1, and WEtv.
Sunny Side Up created their own unique sound, performing original music that falls somewhere between the genres of folk, pop, blues, indie, and experimental. As Sunny Side Up singers, Melissa Tarter and Jack Wells, explained “At this point our music might be classified as a jazzy, soulful spin on indie folk music...but who knows where the future will take us!” Emerging from the suburbs of Detroit, Sunny Side Up is sinking their melodic hooks into the minds of everyone who listens.
Sunny-Side Up found great reviews in 2009, grabbing kudos from various industry publications and online Indie radio stations. In May 2011, this up-and-coming duo was selected as Editor’s Pick of the Month for Indie-Music.com and retained the #1 spot on the “Singer Songwriter Charts” for three consecutive months. The band was also highlighted in Music Connection Magazine as one of the top 25 New Music Critiques of 2009 and by Hear/Say: America's College Music Magazine where they received great reviews.
Sunny Side Up hit the airwaves as a featured guest on the Mitch Albom show on Detroit’s WJR radio and played on several popular internet radio stations like FM102x, RadioNY.org, Women of Substance Radio, RadioElectric.com, and MVYradio.com, which is one of the most listened-to internet radio stations in the world. Their 2009 summer tour included 35 gigs, opening for artists such as Ryan Cabrera and standing on their own as headliners for major music festivals like Born to Play: Live (the largest-ever simultaneous live acoustic music event, hosted by Gap), THRIVE FEST 2009, and the Ann Arbor Music Festival.
The duo seems to be to be finding their creative niche, and their music community agrees! In February 2010, Sunny Side Up found themselves as finalists in the Best Group/Duo Category for their single "Don't Forget That You Love Me" at the 6th Annual International Acoustic Music Awards.
Their summer 2010 tour kicked-off as they headlined at the Hoodilidoo Music and Peace Festival. Mid-way through their tour they were selected to perform on the Citizens Bank Stage at Arts Beats and Eats in Royal Oak, Michigan and then ended with a bang when they opened for thousands of people on the main stage in their hometown at SterlingFest. Sunny Side Up was then sought out to perform at the 2011 Motown Winter Blast in Detroit.
Most recently, Sunny Side Up's single "Unspoken" was chosen to be featured in the MTV reality show "16 and Pregnant." As their music is being played throughout North America, Europe, and Asia on popular TV shows like Animal Planet’s Last Chance Highway, Planet Green’s Treehugger TV, VH-1’s The Short List, and WEtv’s Raising Sextuplets, fans all over the globe are waiting to see what’s next for this talented duo!
