"At the heart of Dakar, Cherif Mbaw teaches singing, guitar and composition. Tirelessly, he repeats and works in places of fortune, but always between sky and sea, beaches and huge rooftop refreshed by the evening sea breeze. He listens to all music, even the most alien to its culture, watched some skepticism around him who does not understand why he finds pleasure in listening to a Beethoven sonata or a free improvisation. On the advice of Baaba Maal, he entered the Conservatory and it learns the traditional African instruments, and xalam balafon, and also to the classical guitar, while learning music theory and theory. He won the International Guitar Competition organized by UNESCO, which opened the doors of Europe. Cherif Mbaw is immediately at the crossroads of two cultures and two styles. Fusion without confusion, that his great strength, he travels through different worlds, he assimilates and reinforces his endearing voice, with this particular technique related to Wolof singing rhythm and knowledge that comes from the tradition of Senegal. Through his first two albums, released respectively on the Detour label / Erato and Nocturne, and participating in numerous events such as Transmusicales Rennes, festivals Indétendances, Paris Plage, Art Rock and Solidays, it acquires the status of value uplink. He is also the first of many parties, Amadou and Mariam in Keziah Jones through Neneh Cherry, plus a European tour with Tracy Chapman. On this third album, he creates a new universe discretion. It explores the unexpected sounds, such as the brightness of the Fender Rhodes piano and pedal steel guitar and slide, dear to Ben Harper and Ry Cooder. He slips into his songs a laid-back rock side to JJ Cale, and spiritual intonations that were blown as much by his meeting with Tracy Chapman by his own serene and philosophical approach to life. With its catchy choruses, Mame Yalla which opens the festivities at the Kora sensual, and through Baye Laye, Africa, or the heady Cuckoo Baby, Sing For Me album is a record today. Both written and very minimalist, it combines the strength of African groove and funky accents in a timeless rock and pop inhabited. Hypnotic music, propelled by an inspired inventiveness, vitality communicative and captivating .. .. http://www.myspace.com/cherifmbaw
