Guitarist Shaun Kissing and vocalist Lara Hillard met in the Spring of 2009 when Lara took a leap of faith and answered her first Craigslist ad. Shaun and Lara quickly learned that they shared a mutual excitement and love for all genres of music as well as a common interest in drinking beer and b******* about almost everything. Their first band did not work out, but Lara and Shaun stayed close and continued to pursue their dream of forming a band that played the type of music they wanted to listen to. In May 2010, bassist Tom Bauer (affectionally known as Tommy Wayne) posted a Craigslist ad looking to collaborate with open-minded musicians. It was apparent from the first practice that he was an ideal fit with Shaun and Lara. Soon after Tommy Wayne joined the band, he introduced Lara and Shaun to guitarist Jason Ligget (Liggs). Liggs’ unique musical perspective and creativity added the perfect compliment to the band’s emerging pop-folk sound. In the fall of 2010, drummer Jon Powell was introduced to band. Jon’s boisterous energy and catchy beats proved to be the missing foundation for The Field Notes’ eclectic sound. The Field Notes mix folk with pop-rock, creating a sound that’s hard to forget. Each member of the band brings something different to the table and collectively The Field Notes have developed an upbeat sound that is nothing short of genuine.
