I met a young man at Charlotte airport - he had one of those space age prosthetic legs. We started talking and I learned he had lost it in a roadside attack Afghanistan. But his attitude about his leg and LIFE in general was so positive and buoyant that it really struck me. His injury at such a young age didn't bother him at all. He was proud of his service and his country, and was very excited that he would now get to go to college - and he was the first person in his family's history to ever get that chance. He told me he was from farm country in Indiana - lots of accidents happen and people get hurt all the time. It wasn't a big deal to him. I got home a week later and wrote this song. I am very happy to say that the National Veterans Foundation has chosen MAN OF STEEL to be their official theme song. Please support them and our veterans at www.nvf.org
