Abstraction Layer is a Symphonic Prog band from São Paulo, Brazil that consists of three members of other bands; Diego Sgrillo from Cinema Show, Jorge Sanchez from Wejah and Fernando Pacheco from Recordando O Vale Das Maçãs and GALF. Sanchez is an accomplished lead vocalist, Pacheco plays all acoustic and electric guitars, and Diego plays keyboards, bass and drums. The band has become quite well known in Brazil playing the music that has defined their inimitable style, a symphonic keyboard dominated sound with orchestrated passages of guitar. Some of their more well-known songs are Thin Ice, Nightwalker, Winter Gates and The Glass Flower, all coming from the 2010 album "The Glass Flower". A feature of the album is Sgrillo´s chosen timbres for his keyboards, waves of Hammonds and moogs, including some weird digital sounds along with more familiar vintage ones, an excellent work. The title track is very lightweight prog, with influences of soft Genesis or Emerson Lake and Palmer, consisting of a heavy emphasis on Hammond, Moog and a concise guitar sound. The vocals of Sanchez are sung in English, gentle and high falsetto like Jon Anderson. Fernando Pacheco is a master of guitar playing, both acoustic and electric, and has become very well known as one of Brazil's finest, a virtuoso on lead soloing and rhythm playing. This collaboration of the three inventive prog artists has been eagerly awaited and hopefully will gain some worldwide acceptance now with the release of the debut album.
