Nineteen-year-old Joanna Schluff is a singer-songwriter from the Spruce Home area just outside of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She has become very accomplished through her commitment to her dream.
At a young age she was already ecperimenting with music instruments. At age 8 she began to teach herself how to play the piano. In a matter of one year she was writing many original songs on the piano. She joined band in grade 6 and learned to play the flute. She continued with school band until the end of grade 9.
At age 15 she became serious about creating songs on the guitar with lyrics and singing them. Her dad taught her the basics and she taught herself the rest on how to play the guitar. She began to work on her voice and her guitar extensively. Now,four years later, she has found her voice and her sound.
In 2010 Joanna joined a rock band that her friend had put together. She worked well with the band and surfaced interesting ideas and approaches to different songs and they did the same for her. Even though she was in a rock band, she did her own pop music on the side because that is what she truly loves. She enjoyed being in the band as well though so she kept herself busy doing both. In 2011 members of the band moved to Saskatoon, the band broke up and Joanna continued her own music solo. However, they do back eachother up in live perfomances now and then.
Joanna has performed mamy times and has lots of on-stage eperience. She plays at many local events. She has played at: Taste of Pa 2011, Taste of PA 2012, she was one of the finalists in "Search for the Stars 2012" she plays in bars, in schools, and she is opening for "The 11th Octive" in December of 2012. She has played at many other events as well. She plays anywhere where she can share her music. Her lucky day was when she auditioned for Urban Star in the summer of 2011 and through this met Curtis Anderson, producer and host of SHAW TV’s Stripped Down. Anderson invited her to perform eight of her original songs on his show that would last an hour including interviews. Joanna accepted the offer and played on an episode of the show in early 2012.
Through Curtis Anderson, Joanna met Earl Pereira who is the lead singer of "The Steadies" and former bassist of "Wide Mouth Mason." She recorded her first single "Never Let You Down" with Periera and is currently working on another song "Run Away" with him.
She recently has met Dorean Thorsen who is also a producer and she will be recording a few songs with him as well. Through the support of her friends, family, strangers and fans, she is rising quickly as a musician.
She enjoys covering artists and bands such as Katy Perry, Adelle, Natasha Bedingfeild, The Fray, Cold Play, Train, Beyonce, Kanye West, and David Guetta. No matter what type of song she covers, she always creatively makes their songs her own. Joanna has always stayed on the creative side of music and mostly writes and performs her own songs. She has taught herself how to play many instruments, taught herself how to sing, and has been very independent with her music. She recently began vocal training with Karen Langois which were very helpful in Joanna’s development as a singer. Joanna has also began piano lessons (she plays at Level 7) and continues to work on her guitar playing. Joanna is present across all social media platforms including YouTube, Soundcloud, Facebook, Bandzoogle, and ProArtist where she shares her music. Joanna has always been independent with her music and has done a lot of work to make her progress. In a short span of tree years, she has performed live many times, learned multiple instruments, reached out to industry professionals, created websites, collaborated with other musicians, participated in competitions, and written over 80 songs. Joanna’s love for music has brought her to push herself and never give up. She is looking forward to a career in the music industry and is thrilled to have a chance to get on any stage.
